Winter B&B Deal

Biltmore Estate orchids

Orchids at the Biltmore Estate conservatory give us our tropical fix each winter.

Things get pretty quiet around here in the winter.

The gardens are all dormant at the Biltmore Estate. The rafts and zipline gear are put up until spring. Sidewalks are cleared of cafe tables.

The biggest attraction is romance with your mate in front of the fireplace at Inn on Main Street in Weaverville. To help make that even more attractive, we’re giving you a pair of two-day tickets to the Biltmore Estate or a third night free with a two-night stay in a king or cottage room between Jan. 1 and April 4. That’s worth up to $179. The exception for that deal is Valentine’s weekend, Feb. 15 and 16, but if you come that weekend we’ll give you a free hour soak at Hot Springs Spa.

Winter is actually our favorite time at the Biltmore mansion. We get in our tropical fix at the conservatory, communing with the orchids, palms and banana trees. I keep threatening to bring in my own rum drink in coconut with a paper parasol and relax beneath the jungle canopy there, but Nancy refuses to join me.

Winter is also the time to avoid the tourist throngs in Asheville. The Biltmore is uncrowded, you don’t need reservations for any restaurants, and even the most popular hiking trails are yours alone. In fact, winter hiking is the best. Visibility is great with the leaves off the trees, and the crisp air sure beats the summer sweat weather.

Come see what makes the four seasons here all worth savoring. We’ll leave the light on.

Grove Park Inn opens gingerbread display

Edible architecture is again on display at the Grove Park Inn, which is exhibiting its annual gingerbread competition entries through Jan. 2.

As in years past, those who aren’t guests of the Asheville inn are allowed to visit on weekdays only. Staff there looked the other way, though, when guests of Inn on Main Street bed and breakfast went over on a Saturday or Sunday. This year, however, the inn said it was enforcing its guests-only policy on weekends. I’m not sure how they tell a guest from a non-guest, so you might wear a bathrobe so you appear to be heading from your room to the spa. Just kidding!

Another development that has locals upset is that the Grove Park Inn will charge non-guests $10-15 for parking this year. All the more reason to take the Asheville Trolley and jump off for an hour to take in the sights.

While you’re here to see the gingerbread, why not visit the Biltmore Estate for Candlelight Christmas tours? Adding the mystical reservation-only tour costs $20 on top of our two-day $55 pass, for a total of $75 per person. We have lots of openings here in Weaverville between now and New Year. You can book online if you like.

Christmas comes to Biltmore Estate

It’s officially Christmas at the Biltmore Estate, now that even the big trees are in place and decorated. We’ve been busy booking Candlelight Christmas tours for our guests arriving on Nov. 9 or later, but there are still a lot of openings at Inn on Main Street, and plenty of spots for evening tours at the Biltmore.

Our Candlelight Christmas Tour packages are a particularly good deal. The cost for the reservation-only evening tour is only $20 extra on top of the cost of our regular discounted two-day ticket, which is $55. At $75 total, that means two days of visits, plus the mystical evening tour, for less than the gate cost of the evening tour alone.

And there’s still a lot happening in Weaverville and Asheville during the holiday season, not least of which is fantastic gift shopping for unique arts and crafts.

Another reason to think of Inn on Main Street at Christmas is that we offer gift certificates with no markup. It’s easy to buy an entire package for Mom and Dad, and let them pick the date. Or buy a certificate for a certain amount and let them choose the package as well as the dates. Best of all, if they use it from January through March (except Valentine’s weekend), they will get the third night free or half off the cost of their second night. That’s a great way to leverage your Christmas budget.

Biltmore Candlelight Christmas tickets

Oddly enough, tickets are already selling quickly for the Biltmore Estate’s Candlelight Christmas tours.

The tours are by reservation only. They’re always popular, but it’s unusual to hear of the reserved time slots filling well before leaf season has begun in the Western North Carolina mountains. Folks are catching the holiday spirit early, I guess.

At Inn on Main Street bed and breakfast in Weaverville, we offer our guests discount tickets to Asheville‘s most popular attraction, with a nominal add-on for the Christmas tickets. We take care of the reservations and pick your tickets up in advance so they’re waiting in your room. No handling fee, no standing in lines at the Biltmore welcome center.

Our discount two-day tickets cost $55 each, with an additional $20 for a Christmas Candlelight upgrade. To put that into perspective, the gate price for Candlelight Christmas tickets at the Biltmore cost $69 to $79, and do not include a daytime visit at all.

Candlelight Christmas tours are held nightly between Nov. 9 and Dec. 31 except Nov. 20 and 22, and Dec. 24 and 25. Earliest tour time is 5:30.  Daytime tours do not require reservations, and are offered daily.

Perfect time for a Spring B&B getaway

Inn on Main Street blooms again

March brings the blooms

We love March.

Asheville and Weaverville are alive with early blooms: daffodils, forsythia, tulips, some fruit blossoms and redbuds. The weather is great, if a bit unpredictable. It’s still early enough in the season that the Biltmore Estate, restaurants and shops are uncrowded, and we normally have last-minute rooms available at Inn on Main Street bed and breakfast.

We love to share March.

That’s why we’re extending our winter special this year until the Biltmore Festival of Flowers begins on April 1. Until then, enjoy half off the cost of your second night in a premium room, the Ayers, Lee, Forest or Garden. Stay more than two nights and we’ll extend that 25 percent savings for the duration. Put that on top of our discounted winter Biltmore tickets, only $45 for a two-day ticket with audio tour, and you have a super savings over the rest of the year. This special is good for weekends as well as weekdays, and you can combine it with our Soaking Soulmates or Girlfriend Getaway package (we’ll deduct the savings from the package price when we confirm your reservation).

Be Our Bed and Breakfast Valentine

There’s nothing like an icy day to make you appreciate a warming fireplace and a snuggle session with the one you love. Bed and breakfasts were made for Valentine’s Day, and Inn on Main Street is doing its part to help lovers everywhere discover Asheville and each other.

Through the end of March, we are offering our winter Snuggle Up special. If you stay two nights in a premium room, you’ll get the second night half price, or you’ll get a pair of two-day tickets to the Biltmore Estate with a free audio tour, or you’ll get a third night free, a savings of up to $179.

This deal becomes especially good when you consider that many Asheville independent restaurants are offering Valentine dinner specials, and the music and arts calendar is particularly vibrant for this time of year.

Christmas season returns to Asheville

OK, so nobody wants to be overwhelmed by Christmas come-ons in early November. But our Inn on Main Street guests apparently are eager to feel the seasonal glow.

We’ve helped about a dozen couples obtain tickets to the Biltmore Estate Candlelight Christmas tours, and the season just started last weekend. The tickets we sell are a bargain, just $70 combined with a daytime pass good for two days. The Biltmore folks have made the tour extra fun this year by continuing the Tiffany exhibit through the end of the year. Our guests have been marveling over the work of the famed artist best know for his stained glass.

This week, the Grove Park Inn also begins its annual National Christmas Gingerbread House competition.  Our guests can see the entries Sunday through Thursday. The inn is offering guided tours this year as well.

Many of our guests do their Christmas shopping at on of our Weaverville galleries, the Folk Art Center or at local studio strolls. In a world flooded with trendy electronics and flimsy foreign-made gift items, it’s refreshing to get a mug or bowl or watercolor crafted by an Appalachian artist.

And sometimes getting away is a great gift to ourselves. There’s nothing like a comfy bed, beautiful mountain views and a great breakfast cooked by someone else. We’ll leave the light on for you.

Nature beckons at the B&B

We love the arrival of April. The flowers are blooming, weather is warming and we can start serving breakfast on the porch here at Inn on Main Street. Weaverville comes out of hibernation.

April also is the start of the Biltmore Estate Festival of Flowers. The gardens are beautiful, and the inside of the house bursts with the color of cut and live floral displays. It’s a great way to shake off winter. We’re celebrating by selling discounted two-day Biltmore tickets for $50, every day. At the gate, the price ranges from $54 midweek to $64 on Saturday, and that’s for a one-day ticket.

But we’ve got more to get excited about this April. I mean REALLY excited. Navitat has re-opened for the season, and the canopy adventure tour has added nighttime tours as well. We took the daytime tour last season and got a barely bearable adrenaline rush. It’s hard to imagine shooting through the night sky with nothing but inky blackness and moths in the spotlight ahead. We’ll leave that to the true adventure seekers.

An April means even more. Our Asheville Bed and Breakfast Association Spring Tour of Inns is April 16 and 17. We’re excited about the participation and the top-notch restaurant sponsors who will provide bites at each stop.  Stay with us that weekend, and we’ll supply your tickets half price.

We’d love to hear from visitors what your favorite things are about April in Asheville, Weaverville and the mountains. Share on our Facebook page .

Spring’s a-springin’ in Western North Carolina

They may not look like much yet, but the tips of the daffodil leaves poking out of the mulch are a sight for frozen eyes. At Inn on Main Street bed and breakfast in Weaverville, we are SO ready for porch breakfast weather. The Asheville area has had a tremendous amount of snow and cold, but the past couple weekends have been gorgeous.

The Biltmore Estate is ramping up for flower madness, too. “Take a tropical break from winter with a visit to the Orchid Room in Biltmore’s Conservatory,” says their latest online newsletter.  “More than 70 colorful orchids are in peak bloom, now through March.  The Orchid Room features bromeliads and orchids, some of which are epiphytes, which gain moisture and nutrients through aerial roots”

I’m an epiphyte neophyte, but it all sounds great to me. And thanks to our discount winter tickets, it should be especially great for our guests.
